Spring Is in the Air – Celebrate Orchids at the SCOCSA Spring Show!

Spring is one of the most exciting times of the year for orchid lovers. As the days become warmer and gardens burst back into life, many orchids respond with spectacular displays of colour, fragrance and form. What better way to celebrate the season than with a visit to the South Coast Orchid Club of South Australia (SCOCSA) Spring Show?

The Spring Show is a wonderful opportunity to see an impressive collection of orchids grown by our club members. Visitors can expect everything from elegant, traditional favourites to unusual and fascinating varieties that demonstrate just how diverse the orchid family really is.

A Celebration of Our Members' Orchids

Behind every orchid on the show bench is a story. Some plants may have been carefully nurtured for many years before producing their finest display. Others might be relatively new additions to a member's collection and flowering for the first time.

For our growers, the Spring Show is an opportunity to present the results of months — and sometimes years — of patience and care. For visitors, it is a chance to enjoy these beautiful plants together in one colourful display.

And you certainly don't need to be an orchid expert to appreciate the show. Sometimes the best approach is simply to walk around, admire the flowers and choose your personal favourite!

Thinking About Growing Orchids?

Perhaps you have admired orchids but always thought they were too difficult to grow. Our Spring Show is a great place to discover otherwise.

SCOCSA members will be on hand throughout the show to offer practical advice and answer your questions. Whether you want to know about watering, fertilising, repotting, light levels or how to encourage that stubborn orchid to flower again, come along and have a chat.

Fact sheets will also be available, providing useful information to help both new and experienced orchid growers.

One of the great advantages of joining an orchid club is being able to learn from people who grow orchids under South Australian conditions. Information about joining SCOCSA will also be available at the show.

Orchids to Take Home

A visit to an orchid show can also be dangerous — in the nicest possible way!

There will be orchid plants for sale, including Cymbidiums, Speciosums, Cattleyas, Oncidiums, Phalaenopsis, Dendrobiums and new-crossing seedlings.

You may arrive intending only to have a look and somehow find yourself leaving with another orchid to add to your collection. For many orchid enthusiasts, that is exactly how the hobby begins: just one orchid.

Then comes another.

And another.

Before long, you are discussing potting mixes, fertilisers and flowering seasons with an enthusiasm you never imagined possible!

More Than Just Flowers

SCOCSA is about more than exhibiting beautiful orchids. Our club brings together people who share an interest in orchid cultivation, propagation, natural history and conservation.

Most importantly, it is about friendship, exchanging knowledge and enjoying the orchid hobby together.

Whether you are an experienced grower, have one orchid sitting on the kitchen windowsill, or simply appreciate beautiful flowers, you will be very welcome at our Spring Show.

Come and Celebrate Spring with SCOCSA

Bring your family and friends, enjoy the magnificent colours of spring, talk to our growers and discover the fascinating world of orchids.

Admission is free and wheelchair access is available.

And be warned — you may arrive simply to admire the flowers and leave as the owner of your very first orchid!

We look forward to welcoming you to the SCOCSA Spring Show 2026!
